Overview

In the Research Fellowship, students work with their mentor to develop and write a research paper that involves original data analysis and then go through the process of submitting their work to an high-level, international academic journal, magazine, competition or conference.

The program has two goals:

  1. Provide students with an intensive, next-level research experience that allows them to take a deeper dive into their areas of interest over a larger span of time (6-12 months).
  2. Guide students in creating robust research outputs that can be submitted to platforms such as practitioner journals, high-stakes international competitions, college-level publications, and/or patent processes.

This helps students get their work out into the world, understand the academic process more thoroughly, and have a tangible outcome from their time in the program. We do not promise publication - rather, we support them they identify a submission target, prepare their manuscript for submission, and (if the manuscript is not accepted) make any edits needed or submit to a back-up target.

Timeline & Structure

In this program, students have up to 30 hour-long meetings with their mentor. Here is the suggested breakdown of the weekly hour-long meetings:

Deadlines

The program follows a tight deadline structure, designed with several progress checkpoints to help ensure students are on track over the course of the program.

Duration of Program

Overall, we expect the program to last a minimum of 6 months, not including the time taken for the publication target to get back with a decision. The final duration of the program is flexible, and we leave it up to the student and mentor to decide how they want to divide up their sessions.

The decision about program duration really comes down to what the mentor and student think is the most feasible output of the project, as well as the most suitable submission platform type for them! Typically, the program length is dependent on 2 things:
